PLANTING GUIDE OF F1 BABY PUMPKIN – FRESH BALL 223

                                 (GOLDEN COIN SEEDS)

I. Features:

 - Good vigor, small leaves, good tolerance to virus.

 - Harvesting: 40 days after sowing.

 - Fruit size at harvest: 6 - 7cm height, 5 - 6 cm diameter.

 - Fruit characteristics: green skin with spots, globe, long peduncle, delicious.

 - Yield: 0.45 - 0.5 kg/fruit, 4.5 - 5.5 kg/plant.

II. Sowing density: Creeping on trellises

III. Soaking and incubating seed:

* Prepare warm water 50 – 52^oC:

- By mixing 40% boiling water (95 – 100^oC) with 60% fresh water (25 – 30^oC) got from drilled well or water faucet.

Soak the seeds in warm water as prepared in 3 hours

* Incubation:

- Clean the towels (or damp tissues), squeeze water out of them to maintain adequate moisture (about 80 – 85%).

- Spread the seeds as soaked in step 2 on the towels, then put these towels in dark, warm place (around 28 – 30^oC).

* Sowing:

- After 18 – 24 hours, the seeds will germinate, please sow these seeds in the nursery or direct seeding on field.

- Rinse seeds not germinated, washed and squeezed towels then incubated again, when all seeds germinate, continue to sowing.

IV. Planting and maintenance:

1. Fertilizer (for 1000 m²):

Fertilizer application for pumpkin cultivation depends on geographic conditions. However, we recommend applying the following guides:

• Lime should be applied at soil preparation to increase fertilizer effect
• Fertilizer should be applied far enough from the plant foot, deep enough (6 – 7 cm) to increase fertilizer effect.

2. Cutting on tops:

When plants have 5 – 6 real leaves cutting tops in the morning sunny, after choose 3 same strong branches, training tops spread equalize on ground.

• Field must have for good drainage in the rainy season, cleaned grass in pumpkin fields to prevent disease for good setting fruits.
• To keep fruit uniform and high fruit yield, fruit should be left on time when fruit enough size.

V. Plant protection:

* Powdery mildew disease:

- It’s usually occurs when high humidity and a temperature of about 22 – 27°C, disease strong harmful in the highlands, where have more fog.

- Is harmful severe in the dry season, should be visit field usually and remove all infected plants (plant are yellow and twisted leaves on tops) to avoid spread other plants.

- Spray the lower side of the leaves to prevent the insects (suck group) with the following chemicals: Dinotefuran (min 89%), Clorfenapyr (min 94%), Diafenthiuron,…

* Borer group worm:

- Harmful through all vegetable period.

- Spray the lower side of the leaves in late afternoon with the following chemicals: Chlorantraniliprole (min 93%), Indoxarb, Emamectin Benzoate (Avermectin B1a 90% + Avermectin B1b 10% ), Chlorfenapyr (min 94%), Flubendiamide (min 95%), …

* Notes:

• Fungicide should be sprayed at old leaves.
• Pesticide should be sprayed at young leaves.
