PLANTING GUIDE HYBRID NETTING MELON – NET 15

 (GOLDEN COIN SEEDS)

                         I/ Features:

        • Strong plant.
        • Harvesting: 70 - 73 days after sowing.

        • Fruit size: 15 - 17 cm length, 15 - 17 cm diameter.

        • Fruit characteristics: round shape, well proportioned, light green skin, uniform shallow and small netting, orange flesh, aroma crispy, Brix: 10 - 11.

        • Yield : 2.1 - 2.3 kg/plant.

        III. Soaking and incubation seeds:

        • Prepare warm water 50 – 52oC:

        Mixing 40% boiling water (95 – 100oC) with 60% fresh water (25 – 30oC) got from drilled well or water faucet.

        • Soaking seeds:

        Soak the seeds in warm water as prepared in 6 – 8 hours.

        • Incubation seeds:

        Get the towel or T – shirt (or fabrics can be moisturizing), washed, squeezed just enough moisture (about 80 – 85%).

        Get the seeds as soaked spread thin on the towels, then put these towels in dark, warm place (around  28 – 30oC).

        If it’s cold, put these towels in warm place or lighting. After incubation in 22 – 24h, should rinse seeds in warm water and incubation again.

        • Sowing seeds:

        After 38 – 42 hours, the seeds will germinate, please sow these seeds in the nursery. Sowing the germinated seeds to pots have environment including: 2 parts of muck + 1 part of soil. After sowing seeds get filled environment and sufficient moisture for irrigation.

        Wash the seeds have not germinated and towels then incubated again, about 10 hours later, the seeds will germinate, continue sowing.

        After 3 – 4 days, seeds germinated (if it’s cold, should if cover the area sowing by white nylon to keep their warm), after 16 – 20 days (seedling have 2 leaves), can be planted in field.

                           IV/  Planting and maintenance:

                           1. Fertilizers (for 1.000 m2):

      • Fertilizer application for cultivation depends on geographic conditions, however, we recommend applying the following guides are applied very effectively to many growing areas for you refer and apply.

        * Quantity:

        Muck:             3 m3

        Super phosphate:    40 kg

        Urea :  25 kg

        Lime:            30 kg

        NPK 16-16-8:            5 kg

        KCl:     17 kg


        * Application:

        * Notes:

        • Should be applied lime at tillage to increase fertilizer efficiency.
        • Should be applied fertilizer far enough from the plant foot, deep enough (6 – 7 cm) to increase fertilizer efficiency.
        • Should be weeding combined with fertilizing times to increase fertilizer efficiency.

                           2. Pruning branches:

      • Leaving only one tree each main vine, prun all lateral branches below axillary 11th.

        Should guide them perpendicular to the bed or are on the trellis.

                           3. Selection and additional pollination:

      • Pollinating, after plants have fruit 5 – 6 days, selecting to leave 2 fruits/plant.

                           V/ Plant protection:

        • Fusarium Wilt :

        It usually occur when the plant begins to flower or small fruit. The plant wilt disease when noon sun, afternoon woke up, a few days after the plant dies.

        Preventing and treating by crop rotation, good drainage, spray with a fungicide such as: Alfamil, Topsin M, Ridomil…

        When infected plants using antibiotics such as: Staner, Mithian…

        • Viral disease :

        Diseases transmitted by sucking insects such as thrips, hoppers, aphids... very harmful in the dry season.

        Preventing and treating: should remove and bury the infected plants, spray the lower side of the leaves with the following chemicals: Admire (Confidor), Actara, Regent, Amic, Lannate, Sakura.../
